WiseClean – New Year’s resolutions for a healthier, cleaner lifestyle

My, oh, my, all these Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations are finally done! Some of you might have already made your resolutions for the new year. However, if you haven’t, don’t let yourself down – the year has only just begun.

This is our third practical listicle to give you some good advice on how to live better, worry less, and just enjoy the ride. If you haven’t read the first two, you can check them out on the WiseClean blog.

Here’s our advice for some great resolutions you can set yourself up for 2023 to have a healthier, cleaner lifestyle.

Setting New Year’s resolutions

Taking time to set New Year’s resolutions has long been a way to reflect on what’s truly important in our lives – what we achieved in the year behind us, and what we plan for the year ahead.

We at WiseClean believe that balance is everything. Being physically fit and healthy should never be undervalued. However, some of the most rewarding resolutions often enrich our emotional wellness and spirit.

We will give you a list of tips you can take care of for yourself or your family while we take care of your home cleaning.

So, what could you do to have a healthier, cleaner lifestyle?

Prioritise annual health checks

First things first. As mentioned, physical and mental health lay the foundation for a happy life. Struggling with health takes the fun out of everything else.

Open your calendar (digital or notebook) and list doctor’s appointments for the year. Write down the ones you’ve been postponing, and consult your primary care provider about which screenings you may be due for.

Not only will you get the anxiety-inducing nuisance over with, but you’ll be more likely to get an appointment ahead of time than at the last minute. Plus, scheduling the rest of your life tasks is easier when you know the appointments in advance.

Don’t forget to regularly visit your dentist and, if your eyesight isn’t your strongest part, your ophthalmologist, too.

Commit to a healthier sleep routine

While you’re waiting for your health checks, there’s one thing you can take charge of yourself. That is, of course, your daily sleep routine.

So many issues can be traced back to a poor night’s sleep. And yet, there is so much more that we can aim to improve beyond a reasonable bedtime.

Some habits that can improve your sleep health include: keeping a consistent sleep schedule, even on weekends or during vacations; making your bedroom quiet and relaxing; removing electronic devices from the bedroom; avoiding large meals, caffeine, and alcohol before bedtime; and getting enough exercise during the day. For more quick sleep tips, look at the Sleep Education website.

Creating a plan to improve your sleep hygiene may look different for everyone, depending on when you need to be active and working throughout the day.

If you have a partner and your schedules are aligned, hit the hay with them. As experts say, beds should be used only for sleep and sex.

Build a better budget

Before you start planning activities, some of which might include spending money, outline a rough monthly budget based on your current income and some new projects you might have already sealed for the new year.

Make a plan for how you’ll stick to it – budgeting apps, such as Bilance, give you an excellent overview of your expenses, track your recurring payments, and help you budget for the future.

Also, supercharge your shopping habits by rethinking when and how you buy things for your home and family; often, there are savings you’re leaving on the table.

Start up a guided workout or class

Whether it’s a gym membership or an online subscription, try out a guided workout or class. It’s easier to keep yourself on track when someone guides you, even better, doing it with a partner or friend.

A free tip! Use your time wisely. Working out at the gym doesn’t have to come at the cost of reading quality books or being current on the news. With audiobook and podcast services like Audible, you can even listen to novels while marching on the treadmill.

If you are tight on your budget, you can explore YouTube channels that have many programmes from qualified experts for free – everything from dance classes to 15-minute core workouts.

If you’re not a gym junkie or don’t enjoy workouts that include a lot of dance moves or moving, lifting weights is a great alternative which you can do without leaving home. A quality set of dumbbells can help improve your stamina and build muscle.

A free tip! Use the stairs whenever possible, in your office or home. This simple habit comes with significant benefits. Stair climbing is good for your heart; it improves muscle strength, bone density, and joint flexibility; it burns more calories than jogging; and it is an excellent stress reliever.

Practice mindfulness, and be present

Anxiety can nag at anyone during any season, in all parts of life. It’s easy to get caught up in anxiety about the future or allow your past experiences to inform your reactions in the present.

Practising mindfulness means doing everything to be grateful for what you have in the moment, where you are in life, and who you are right now.

Leading psychological experts say committing to mindfulness can help you become a better person in less than a year.

Give yourself some love

Positive self-talk can help you focus on what’s good in your life. A little bit of vitamin G (for gratitude) can make you feel happier and more satisfied and even improve your sleep.

Ease stress with kindness. Kindness toward yourself that is!

Plan a holiday

We all need a holiday. Even thinking about an upcoming trip can boost happiness for weeks. Seeing different places can give you a whole new perspective on the world.

Travelling with family can teach your children more about the world around them. They’ll have the opportunity to experience different food, climates, environments, and cultures together.

Couples in a romantic relationship report travelling together makes them significantly more likely to be satisfied in their relationships, communicate well with their partners, enjoy more romance, have a better sex life, spend quality time together and share common goals and desires.

Create a cleaning schedule

Clutter is the enemy of clarity. Clutter in your physical surroundings will clutter your mind and spirits.

Keeping your home tidy is easier when a little bit of cleaning is done regularly, daily, rather than doing a deep clean every week. Daily tasks cut down on future scrubbing and scouring, not to mention harmful germs and bacteria.

Experts from the Good Housekeeping Institute reveal the truth about how often and what you need to clean so keeping the house neat doesn’t suck up endless hours of your precious time when done all at once.

Here’s their printable checklist, which we are happy to give our blessing to. That’s how good it is.
